Pilates and Core Control Classes

Book Online

Pilates and Core Control classes at Injury Shetland teach people how to use their bodies better. We teach you how to move properly and how to use different muscles in the right way to decrease pain, get better after an injury or to reduce the risk of future injury. We use scientific research, our experience and clinical reasoning to select the best modern Pilates exercises for each class. There is a class level suitable for all ages and levels of ability from rehab to elite athletes.

Classes are 50 minutes long and all equipment will be provided for you. Pilates can help to improve strength, movement control and flexibility. We may use some small equipment to make your class interesting and effective. The classes are fun and varied to challenge your control and stability. Class sizes are kept small to ensure a safe environment where the physiotherapist or instructor can come around to assist.

We like to start people in level 1 (depending on experience and level of ability) so that we can teach you how to move properly from the start. We regularly check if you are able to do the exercises properly so that we can progress you through the level most suited to you. That way, you are improving your body at the correct level rather than cheating to do more complex exercises. We offer level 1 to 4 Pilates, stretch and release, antenatal and mum and baby classes. We occasionally offer different taster sessions to give you some variety.

Meet the team

Hanne Moore - Pilates Instructor

Hanne has been helping people in Shetland to improve strength, posture and movement through Pilates for a long time. Having used Pilates herself to deal with significant injuries, Hanne believes in achieving better balance in the body through controlled stretching and strengthening exercises.

Hanne brings a wealth of experience in teaching Pilates to Injury Shetland and has completed courses in Pilates and Yoga as therapy (stretch and release). Classes at Injury Shetland are an excellent way to recover from an injury or prevent one from happening in the future.

Classes

Level 1: If you are looking to develop strength, improve your posture and restore efficient movement into your everyday life then this is your starting point. Learn the basics of core control and how to switch on core stabilising muscles. This class is for beginners, patients who are recovering from injury or those who would prefer to work at a slower more relaxed pace.

Level 2: A class for experienced beginners who have learnt the basics of core control and are ready for progressing exercises further. We like to challenge you a little further in level 2 by adding more complex exercises, doing more exercises in standing and also doing the exercises for longer to improve endurance and function.

Level 3: This is an improvers level class for those working towards intermediate level exercises. Exercises become a bit more challenging again and we expect you to have a really good idea of how to do the easier levels with minimal instruction. Level 3 is designed for people who have done quite a bit of Pilates but still have room for improvement.

Level 4: This is an intermediate level class for those who have a lot of Pilates experience and want to push themselves to a higher level of strength, tone and flexibility. This is the highest level of class we currently offer at Injury Shetland.

Stretch & Release: This class is suitable for Level 2+. The aim of the class is to stretch tight muscles and relieve tension build up. We use Pilates, yoga, and physiotherapy exercises combined witha foam roller and relaxation techniques to give you a nice balance between exercise and relaxation.

Antenatal: Pilates in the antenatal period will help maintain strength, stability and flexibility as a pregnant mum’s body goes through a lot of changes. This class is great for preparing the body for birth, stretching tight muscles, strengthening weak ones and just relaxing in a nice environment overlooking the sea. This class is suitable in either the second or third trimester. This class is taught by a physiotherapist.

Mum & Baby: For mums with babies between 3 and 12 months who would like to regain their strength.
